What is the difference between an Employee Card and a Blue Card?
Both are long-term residence permits tied to a job. The Employee Card fits most positions and any qualification level. The EU Blue Card is for highly qualified workers with a university degree and a salary above a set threshold, and it offers easier movement within the EU. Your job and salary decide which you qualify for.
The Employee Card (zaměstnanecká karta) is a dual permit combining residence and work authorisation for a specific job listed in the central vacancy register. It suits most employment.
The EU Blue Card requires a completed higher education (usually at least three years), an employment contract of at least six months, and a gross salary of at least 1.5 times the average wage.
The Blue Card gives more flexibility for changing jobs and moving to another EU state after a qualifying period. Applications go through the Ministry of the Interior.
