A

Advocate (advokát)

A lawyer registered with the Czech Bar Association who may represent clients before the courts and provide legal services.

Advocate tariff (advokátní tarif)

Decree No. 177/1996 setting the default fees and reimbursements for advocates when no contractual fee is agreed.

Cadastre (katastr nemovitostí)

The public register of real estate that records ownership, boundaries, mortgages and easements. Ownership passes on registration.

Data box (datová schránka)

A secure electronic mailbox for official communication with authorities and courts, with the legal effect of registered post.

Employee Card (zaměstnanecká karta)

A dual residence-and-work permit for non-EU nationals tied to a specific job in Czechia.

Joint marital property (společné jmění manželů)

The default property regime of a marriage, under which most assets and debts acquired during the marriage are shared.

L

Limitation period (promlčecí lhůta)

The time within which a right must be enforced. After it expires, the debtor can raise limitation and defeat the claim.

Statement of claim (žaloba)

The written pleading that starts a civil lawsuit, identifying the parties, the facts, the legal basis and the relief sought.
